Make A Difference, Volunteer!

More than half (56%) of LGBTQ+ centers have too few staff:

  • 23% have no staff and rely solely on volunteers

  • 33% of centers have between one and five paid staff

We rely on volunteers to build intentional community and create equitable space for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families. We could not do it without YOU!

Volunteering is a great way to get involved, meet new people, and give back to the LGBTQ+ community.

Due to the sensitive nature of some programs and services, there is a process to apply and be accepted as a volunteer at OFU.

Right now, we are in the process of establishing Volunteer screening, training, and organizing. We will email you once we have established processes in place, but for right now simply sign up at the link below and wait! We plan to start volunteer trainings in August 2024, please await an answer on your volunteer application via email no earlier than then. Thank you!

Want to Volunteer?

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.

  • Register to attend a 2-hour volunteer orientation

    • Omaha ForUs will email you to schedule this. Volunteer orientations will not begin until August 2024.

  • Complete a background check: Omaha ForUs requires all volunteers to complete a comprehensive background check. Checks may include fingerprinting to remain in compliance with Megan's Law, before being assigned to an orientation schedule or volunteer schedule. Omaha ForUs assumes responsibility for the cost of background checks.

    • NOTE: Previous conviction, incarceration, and/or criminal charges does NOT necessarily prohibit you from serving as a volunteer.

Groups: Organized groups (employee groups, university-based groups, social groups, etc.) seeking group volunteer opportunities are welcome, please email info@omahaforus.org with the subject line “Group Volunteering” if interested. Each individual will need to complete the volunteer application.

- 1 hour of volunteer time = $1 (e.g. 20 hours logged = $20)
- Volunteers may redeem their dollars for use in the Omaha ForUs online shop.

More details about this exciting program are provided in the volunteer application.

*This program is subject to change at any time, and in accordance with available inventory.
