Volunteer at
Omaha ForUs

We rely on volunteers to help us build intentional community and create equitable space for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families. We could not do it without you!

Qualifications

Because of the sensitive nature of some programs and services, interested individuals must go through an application process to be accepted as an Omaha ForUs volunteer. Corporate or service groups interested in one-off volunteer opportunities do not need to apply.

Note: Individual volunteer applications can take up to one month to review and accept.

Interested volunteers must:

  • Be at least 19 years of age.
  • Register to attend a two-hour volunteer orientation after their application is accepted (register through our volunteer portal)
  • Complete a background check. Checks may include fingerprinting, to remain in compliance with Megan's Law, before being assigned to an orientation or volunteer schedule. Omaha ForUs assumes responsibility for the cost of background checks. Previous conviction, incarceration, and/or criminal charges do not necessarily prohibit you from serving as a volunteer.

We use the Bloomerang platform for volunteer management, making it easy to clock in and out of volunteer shifts and to track the value of your hours.

Areas of need

We need a variety of volunteer skills to support our center.

Volunteers can help with:

  • Administrative support, data entry
  • Cleaning
  • Community outreach, tabling
  • Organizing our clothing closet and pride pantry
  • Fundraising, donor outreach
  • Peer-led discussion facilitation
  • Maintenance repairs

Group volunteering

We welcome corporate, university, social, and service groups to sign up for our monthly group volunteering opportunities, hosted every second Friday of the month from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Volunteer groups help us complete various one-off projects. Groups do not require an extensive application process, background check, or regular contribution like our individual volunteers.

If you're ready to register for one of our monthly opportunities, select the event on our calendar to access the specific registration link. Each person in your group must complete a required volunteer registration.

If your group has questions or would like to schedule a special group volunteer day, please contact us and note that you are interested in group volunteering.
